HBO Special: "I Have Tourette's but Tourette's Doesn't Have Me." - Our office has been asked to disseminate information concerning an upcoming broadcast by HBO. The Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services recognizes the importance of proper identification of students with disabilities, case management, and training for professionals. In keeping with the Commissioner's goal to increase the supply of highly effective teachers, we would like you to supply this information to staff that may currently be working with or possibly be assigned to students with Tourette Syndrome.

The HBO broadcast will air on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. EST, and will feature children telling their stories about living with Tourette Syndrome. The purpose of the program is to dispel common myths about Tourette Syndrome.

Electronic Curriculum Planning Tool - free download from D.O.E. This program is available for Mac and Pc format. It allows the user to build professional looking lesson plans incorporating the Florida Sunshine State Standards and FCAT information. Scanned images and worksheets can be imported into the program. Lessons can beshared with other users using the export features.

Professional Development System - a website with information needed for planning conferences, summer or regional workshops, and links to the National Staff Development Standards upon which the study, lay and methods are built.

"NEA Fine Arts Grant Program"
On behalf of the National Education Association (NEA), The NEA Foundation
for the Improvement of Education (NFIE) offers, for the second year in a row,
Fine Arts grants to NEA members. Available to secondary (grades 6-12)
school art specialists through local NEA affiliates, the grants allow fine arts
educators to create and implement programs that promote learning among
students at risk of school failure.

" Tellabs Foundation"
The Tellabs Foundation supports education programs with a particular focus on
local and national programs and curricula for engineering, science,
mathematics and technology. The Foundation has chosen to focus its grant-making on
direct grants to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, generally in the amount of
$10,000 and above. Application deadline: ongoing.

" Milagro Foundation"
The Milagro Foundation focuses on serving at-risk, underrepresented and
disadvantaged youth through educational programs and health services. The
Foundation also supports artistic and culturally enriching programs that strengthen
youth and communities. Most grant amounts are between $2,500 and $5,000. Creative
programs from grass roots organizations working with and for underrepresented
and underprivileged children and youth take precedence. Application deadline:

The Kroger Co. Foundation was established in 1987 to enhance the quality of
life in communities where Kroger customers and employees live and work. Since
its inception, it has been an important resource for the retail operating
divisions to make meaningful contributions to the communities they serve. Grants
are made to support education and youth, feed the hungry, and assist local arts
and civic organizations. Only proposals from 501 (c)(3) nonprofit
organizations are considered for Foundation assistance. The Foundation does not support
national organizations or programs, individuals, medical research organizations,
or golf and other sports events. Application deadline: ongoing.

" Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation"
Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation awards more than $1.5 million
annually to individuals and organizations across the United States. Founded in
1957, the Foundation’s primary philanthropic focus areas include community
improvement projects, education scholarships for trade disciplines and
environmental initiatives that enhance the natural environment. The Foundation considers
requests only from 501(c)(3) organizations. The Foundation only accepts grant
applications submitted via online application.
